5 Sure Fire Ways to Increase Blog Traffic

Get People to Flock to Your Creative Business Blog

You’ve created a blog to get more website traffic. Yet, people are not flocking to your website the way you had hoped. In fact, as a creative business leader or solopreneur, you might have spent the last two to three months watching profits dwindle, especially if you hired a writer to create blog posts for you. It’s time to get back on track, start setting your blog apart.

Believe it or not, there were 255 million websites on the Internet in 2010 according to Pingdom. Your blog can stand out amongst these websites, especially with the numbers of U.S. blog readers expected to reach 122.6 million in 2011. To grab a lion’s share of this readership:

Add video to your blog (Conduct guest interviews with creative business leaders in your industry or design a 1 to 3 minute “how to” video and upload them to you blog. Word Press and Blogger plugins make it easy to upload video.)

  • Align keywords and meta tags (Google’s Keyword Tool, Word Stream’s Keyword Generator and Keyword Discovery are tools you can use to find relevant, traffic generating keywords for your blog posts.)
  • Posts feature interviews (Q&A blog posts with industry leaders can set your blog apart as a reliable source of valuable, content-rich information.)
  • Say it with pictures (Add pictures, especially photos of company events, to your blog.)
  • Wear a copywriter’s hat (Think like a copywriter as you create blog posts for your creative business. Off readers loads of information in short amounts of space.)

Okay. I know the article is titled “5 Sure Ways to Increase Business Blog Traffic,” but just for stopping by I’m gonna give you two more sure ways to increase traffic to your blog.

  •  Set up keyword alerts (Major search engines like Google and Bing let you create keyword alerts. Relate new blog posts at your creative business to news topics that pop up in the keyword alerts. Of course, make sure the keyword alerts are relevant to your creative business and the content of your blogs.
  • Build in-bound links (One of the best ways to do this is to create excellent, “this’ll get folks talking” content at your blog. When other bloggers and journalists write articles they just might mention and include a link to your blog, if your content is rich.)

All very good ideas. Video keeps coming up as a recommended source of content, but it seems hard to make great videos.

Thanks for your response, Darren. Get a good digital camera and creating videos is fairly easy. Of course, you also need to have great content with the videos. Thanks again for commenting.

      • While I agree that technology is cheap, there are a lot of moving parts to producing video content – especially great work. Despite countless articles assuring readers that DIY video is better than no video, I think that can present substantial harm to one’s brand, especially if the marketing is inconsistent. Your stationary, business cards, and website all match for a reason, right? 🙂

To get great video that people want to watch, hire a professional. Most will not only conform to your branding guidelines, but will optimise your video for web and mobile platform delivery – taking a more integrated approach.
