Writers, authors, book club presidents and other creative business leaders may find it worth their while to drop by the Red Room and check out the new literary company’s offerings. At the Red Room you can connect with published authors, not a few of them being bestselling writers. You can also keep up with blogs, upcoming events, new book releases, short stories, articles and tidbits your favorite authors create or get involved with. Maya Angelou, Amy Tan and Terry McMillan are a few of the authors at the Red Room.
Connecting Online With Other Writers at the Red Room
On its “About Us” page founders of the Red Room share that, “Red Room is a community founded around the idea that writing transforms individuals and sometimes whole societies—whether you’re a writer or a reader, you’re part of something special.” To create a sense of community at the literary website, in addition to author pages, special interest clubs, book reviews created by external outlets and Red Room members are highlighted. Subscribe to the Red Room newsletter and you can keep up to date with what popular authors at the organization are doing without having to click over to their individual profiles.
You can also connect to your Facebook and Twitter accounts at Red Room, giving you another opportunity to develop rewarding relationships with readers and creative business leaders who visit you at the literary arts website. If you gain enough connections as well as heightened popularity you might get featured on one of the main pages at the website. Because publishers, editors, publicists, media leaders and other literary enthusiasts visit the Red Room becoming a featured author may also help you to land freelance writing contracts with employers and/or secure your first book deal.
Creating Red Room Author Profiles
It’s free to join the Red Room. You’ll access a dashboard to create your personal profile. Types of facts and features you can include in your online profile are:
- Author bio (add a jpeg picture to add a personal touch to your profile)
- Title of your favorite book (you can also add the title of the book you’re currently reading)
- News and events about your writing (e.g. book signings, literary festival you’re scheduled to attend)
- Personal blogs
- Titles, descriptions, ISBNs and places where your books are sold (feel free to include e-books as well; also be sure to add the cover of your books to your profile)
- Reviews your books have received (you can also post reviews about books authored by other writers that you’ve read)
Currently in the beta phase, the Red Room is a little sluggish when updating author profile information. However, it’s expected that the Red Room team will iron this out as the days go on. Although the company doesn’t ask you to be shy about introducing others to your creative pursuits, as with most rewarding things in life, it’s the connections and relationships you establish and nurture at the Red Room that may yield the greatest results in your life.
